Interview - Westminster College,
Salt Lake City, Utah
Why did you choose your university?
The major reason to attend Westminster College was the high quality of the business programs offered here. The business faculties are friendly, and easy to approach if I have question or need some help.
The location of Westminster College allows me for less than 20 minutes to reach one of the best ski resorts in the country, as well as explore lakes, mountains, and national parks. During the summer I usually go with my friends waterskiing in the surrounding lakes, or camping in beautiful places like the Zion National Park.
What do you like best?
The combination of business classes, extracurricular experience, and cooperating with faculties allow me to expand my perceptions of the surrounding world.
What was your biggest surprise?
Everything in U.S.A. happens more quickly, and in bigger size — especially in the business field. This rush brings some excitement and curiosity in me to push my skills and knowledge to higher level.
What are your activities?
I have created the Westminster Entrepreneurship Club, where both undergraduate and
MBA students work on development of their business ideas. I have the opportunity
to attend the Micro-finance Research Symposium where I presented my research on
micro-credit programs in the developing countries.
How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your
country?
In short run, I see myself going back to Eastern Europe and starting my own business
with social mission to help people there improve their lives.
What is your advice to other students?
Decide what are your goals in life, and what do you want to be your role in the
world.
A small, liberal arts college like Westminster will prepare you not only to be a
“global citizen”, but also will equip you with skills to bring positive, social
changes to our world.

Interview - Northern Virginia Community College
Why did you decide to study in the U.S.A.?
My younger brother, Ismail, mentioned about how the education system is great here. In addition, he mentioned about how perfect teachers he has. When I came here, I was not sure if I did the right decision but now, after almost two years, I am very happy about the decision I made to come here for my education because my brother was right.
How did you choose your college?
I live in Virginia and NVCC is very close to my home. Moreover, NVCC has such a great campus at Annandale.
What do you like best?
The life is very organized here. Everything is on time. When you ask something to anybody, they just love to help you. Also, it is not as hard as in Turkey to get an A from your classes.
What do you miss most?
I miss my family, friends and Istanbul a lot. I do not have very difficult time to find Turkish food here because there are many Turkish restaurants here. However, I miss “doner” (a kind of Turkish kebab) a lot because “doner” in here is not as delicious “doner” in Turkey.
How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?
I would like to study MBA program in an American university and set up my own business in Turkey. I am learning and will learn many good things about business here.
What is your advice to other students?
If they can afford it, I strongly recommend studying in the USA. It is such a wonderful experience.
Interview - Sierra College
Why did you decide to study in the U.S.A.?
A degree from the U.S.A. will give me more credibility and will give me more of a chance to find a job later.
How did you choose your college?
Sierra College has an ESL program for international students and I can improve my English before I transfer to a University. The sunny warm weather is great. I like the smaller feel at Sierra and the community we have on campus. I also feel very safe on campus and the surrounding areas.
What was your biggest surprise?
The biggest surprise about U.S. life was that everybody has a car! And about education, was that you can choose your own courses. Although Sierra College has a counselor to give me advice, I really like that the ultimate decision about what I study is mine.
How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?
I want to be an Accountant. A degre from a U.S. university will be very valuable overseas, and being bilingual will provide me with more work opportunities in the future.
What is your advice to other students?
Take some English before coming, save up a lot of money if possible, bring notes from your previous classes and talk to English speakers.
Interview - University of New England
Utah
Why did you decide to study in the U.S.A.?
One reason was the quality of education and the desire to have an American degree. Another reason is because I wanted to learn about the American health care system and to experience life in a different culture.
How did you choose your university?
I selected the University of New England because it has a very good reputation in the health sciences and offered me an opportunity to complete an Intensive English Language Program prior to enrollment in my academic program. I also liked the fact that Maine provided me the chance to experience all the different seasons in a real American environment.
What do you like best?
There are not a lot of students from my home country and I am forced to learn English very quickly. The people at the university are also very nice and helpful. I also like the school’s location near the ocean and the city of Portland, Maine.
What do you miss most?
I really miss the food and entertainment from Taiwan. I also miss my family and friends very much, but I try to keep in touch with them as much as possible.
What was your biggest surprise?
I was very surprised about the custom of tipping for service and that you have to pay taxes on purchases. I also found that the teaching style is very different in America compared to Taiwan.
How relevant is your U.S. education to your personal goals and to the needs of your country?
I will become a Physical Therapist and hope to open my own practice someday. I think that the United States provides the best quality education for health care. Health care is one of the critical needs of any country and I am glad to be a part of its future.
What is your advice to other students?
My best advice is to have an open mind and sense of adventure. You will find many new things that will challenge your way of thinking.
